Iceland has so much incredible natural beauty around every corner; it would be easy to plan super-busy days of touring to make sure you fit in as much as you can. And with all those extra daylight hours in the summer months, it can make for a hectic outdoor travel schedule.
But don’t worry – I have the perfect antidote for long days of walking in national parks or along black sand beaches!
The highlight of my trip was a volcanic paradise called the Blue Lagoon. It’s a popular spa destination 45-minutes from Reykjavik. The Blue Lagoon features an outdoor laguna filled with warm, mineral-rich water that heals the body and soul. The spa is open from 8 am until late during the summer and offers different packages to suit all budgets.
“Entrance to Luxury”
The basic day package includes entrance to the lagoon, a silica mud mask, a supply of fresh towels, access to the sauna and steam rooms, and one drink from the in-lagoon bar. Vegans can even get their green juice on if they so desire.
I upgraded to the premium package for a bonus algae mask and treatment, a pair of comfy slippers, and a soft robe, but that’s not all. They also include a reservation at the Lava Restaurant where a glass of sparkling wine is waiting for me. The Lava Restaurant is the only place I know where it’s okay to eat in public wearing a robe and slippers.
Need to regroup? Then likely you’re looking for the ultimate indulgence. You should purchase the full spa treatment. This package moves you up a notch to the highest level. The Retreat tier bonus includes a private changing suite, entry to the VIP section of the lagoon, and four transforming hours at the spa.
Availability to the Blue Lagoon is limited, so be sure you book and purchase your tickets in advance at: www.bluelagoon.com.
“Ready for Pure Luxury”
“Never Ending Footsteps”
Can you picture spending a fabulous evening soaking in the warm steamy waters of a natural hot spring? I know you can so put a drink in your hand, too. This is what I call living my best life. It’s pretty much my definition of luxury, and the lagoon will definitely speak to you and invite you to stay for another few days of sightseeing.
Owning its legacy, the Blue Lagoon is extremely popular. Although the pool is bigger than what it used to be, it still pays to pre-book your tickets well in advance. You can’t just “drop-in,” but the Lagoon is open from early morning until late in the summer months. Admission is limited, and tickets sell out quickly.
The only drawback to this treatment is that it’s not a good idea to dip your hair in the waters, especially if you just spent hundreds of dollars getting your hair done for this trip. The water does amazing things to your skin, but your hair, hmmm, not so much. Bring your conditioner or use their complementary brand and saturate your hair with it before and after you get in the seawater.
If you can’t make it to the Blue Lagoon, I also recommend the next best attraction, the Secret Lagoon. It doesn’t have as many tourists, so it’s not as congested, but it has its share of breathtaking backdrops. Hot Spring can either be an addition or an option. It’s totally up to you. You’re in charge, but you need to call me soon to set things in motion.
